TOXOCON-6: A Grand Success

TOXOCON- 6, the 6th National Conference of Indian Society of Toxicology was held on 27 May 2012 in Cochin, which was a resounding success with an overall excellent feedback. The conference was dedicated to the theme of "Pesticides". There were 13 speakers of repute from various parts of the country and abroad who spoke on the toxic profile and medical management of poisoning resulting from various pesticides. The speakers comprised experts from the fields of internal medicine, emergency medicine, intensive care, clinical & forensic toxicology and forensic medicine. Pesticides covered organophosphorus and carbamate insecticides, organochlorine compounds, pyrethroids, paraquat, aluminium and zinc phosphide, bromadiolone and other anticoagulant rodenticides, phosphorus, neonicotinoid compounds, and other emerging pesticides. All these were discussed thoroughly with regard to their mode of action, diagnosis, symptomatology, medical management and medico-legal and medico-social aspects.

While the lectures were fascinating, educative, and useful to all the delegates, it was felt that there is a need to disseminate the information culled from them to a broader audience across India. This is proposed to be done by way of publishing a small book containing the practical essence of all the lectures and making it available to medical professionals, toxicologists and forensic experts of India at a nominal price. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this book, to be titled "Pesticide Poisoning Pocketbook for Physicians" will be donated to the Indian Society of Toxicology.

TOXOCON-7: Bites and Stings by Creatures of the Sea

The 7th National Conference of Indian Society of Toxicology will be held on 02 & 03 March 2013 in the glorious coastal state of Goa! The theme is unique: Marine envenomation. The conference will be organized by Prof Silvano Dias Sapeco of Goa Medical College in collaboration with the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa.
