JIST 2005: 'The Inception'

Until 2005 there was hardly any medical society present in India dedicated exclusively for the development and promulgation of Medical Toxicology. Although, Toxicology is a major chapter in Forensic Medicine syllabus, it was left undermined and in uncared state. It was the vision of a pioneer of Indian Medical Toxicology Dr. V. V. Pillay which gave a lead for holistic development of Medical Toxicology through the formation of a nascent toxicology society, first of its kind in India named Indian Society of Toxicology (IST). Its motto was to provide an inter-sectorial, integrated platform for all types of toxicologists, i.e., inclusion of the clinical and other allied fraternities related to toxicology. It was not so smooth to start with. Dr. V.V. Pillay and his team then, had to face numerous criticism, cynicism and scorns from many fellow professionals. And, today 1ST stands-out as a prestigious scientific society of which every toxicologist around the world aspires to be a proud member. Nevertheless, for an on-interrupted, progressive, and tangible development of IST, widespread promulgation was the fundamental pre-requisite. Thence, the concept of bringing out The Journal of Indian Society of Toxicology (HST), and conducting IST-Conferences/CMEs was developed by the team of Dr. Pillay, in 2005. The same trend is consistently continuing till today without interruption and with a surging curve of development. The key to the success of HST is the fundamental elements it believes in, i.e., strict principles and ethical values of publication, and adherence to the professionalism.

JIST,2015: 'Shift of Paradigm'

In 2015, there is a shift of paradigm. The editorial control of HST has been handed over to us (Dr. K.K. Shaha and Dr. AP. Patra of HPMER, Pondicherry). That is what a visionary like Dr. Pillay usually does - for a consistent, uninterrupted and time-tested improvement, and for an inclusive growth. We are feeling privileged and honoured for this grand responsibility of HST. We promise holistic improvements in future publications of HST keeping up all the fundamental values of HST intact, i.e., transparency, cost and publication-ethics. We are indebted and we sincerely thank all the !ST-members for the grand appreciation given to us during the last 1ST conference (TOXOCON-8) at HPMER, Pondicherry. Hopefully, the same flavour may be even more be there in the forthcoming 1ST conference (TOXOCON-9) as well.

Long live HST !

Cheers!
